    • Ava Nolan feels that her life is a wreck.Scratch that e is a wreck.Kicked out of high school one month before graduation and now she as far as away from the bright lights of California as she can get,the small town of Eckhart out in the middle of nowhere. Not to mention living in a house that was the scene of a multiple homocide. Her family is the epitome of dysfunctional. There father who is an out of work scholar who does his research in the occult and the weird. He keeps himself locked inside his [...]

    • In BLACK HEART, RED RUBY, there's only one rule: nothing is ever as it seems. The writing is gorgeous, the plot is airtight, and the Pulp-Fiction-quoting, take-no-prisoners heroine can sometimes feel more like the villain as the story progresses. There are SO many layers and twists. It grabs you from the very first line and doesn't let you stop until the very last. A must read for anyone who's a fan of spooky houses, family curses, and girls who aren't afraid to get their hands a little bloody.

    • Readers, beware: the words and characters you'll find inside Teresa Yea's BLACK HEART, RED RUBY are even more darkly gorgeous than the book's stunning cover.I wish this book could have a genre all to itself; if it did, I'd call it "American Gothic." Reading this book, I could imagine a Lana Del Rey album playing as a soundtrack to the dark, twisty events unfolding on the pages.I'd recommend this book to anyone who likes a realistic, flawed heroine who's struggling with herself (as many real peop [...]

    • Full disclosure: I read this book as a CP/beta reader so it was an earlier version but I don't think that matters much. I would definitely recommend it to lovers of dark fantasy that also feels quite contemporary. If you're into gorgeous writing, edgy material, and what some might call an "unlikeable heroine," you'll enjoy this book. It's fast paced with some fun Pulp fiction references and lots of cool twists. I loved how the mystery plays out and also how the Teresa Yea weaves her dark humor i [...]

    • **4.5 Stars**This was as well written as Love in a Time of Monsters which I thought was wonderful. This author excels at writing really flawed and interesting characters. This was dark, exciting and a very hard to put down book. Even though this wasn't my typical read I really liked it. I definitely can't wait to read book #2 in this series and I will auto buy any books Teresa Yea writes in the future!

    • I really liked this book! Love in a Time of Monsters is still my favorite, but this one was just as good! I liked the main character Ava and the fact that she wasn't perfect and had a lot of issues to deal with. There was a lot of mystery to this book which I liked and kept me not wanting to put the book down. I can't wait to read the second book in this series.
