    • quiz time!!1. let's say you have a killer idea for a plot. do you:a) concoct a ridiculously complicated plot involving five million characters, none of whom grow in the least, leading your readers to not give a damn about their fates?ORb) develop your damn characters?2. okay, now let's say that you are writing historical fiction about people who actually existed. do you:a) eschew character development because, hey, they did that for themselves while they were alive and anyway, they are just tool [...]

    • The jury is still out on this one. While the story was intriguing and the secret of Da Vinci's Last Supper revealed on the final page was unexpected, the journey to the final destination was convulated and confusing. I am, however, willing to take some of the blame for this as I did not have nearly the grasp of Church history needed to breeze through this book easily; instead I struggled through it bit by bit determined to reach the end in order to learn the secret touted throughout the book. It [...]

    • If you enjoy art history, Italian history and the history of religious heresy, this mystery is for you! A bit The Name of the Rose and The Da Vinci Code, this novel is imaginative and inspiring in ways unique to whatever experience and belief each reader brings to it.

    • This is the story of Father Agostino Leyre, an Inquisitor and expert in cryptography, ho is dispatched by the Pope to the monastery of Santa Maria delle Grazie in order to decode Leonardo da Vinci's painting.

    • Maybe I just wasn't in the right frame of mind for reading this right now. It seemed contrived, dry as dust, and utterly irrelevant. Set in Milan during the painting of the Last Supper, an Inquisitor has been sent to look for the person sending damning clues that something is being concealed in the mural, and it could crumble Christianity. He settles in among the priests at the monastery and starts detecting. An expert at codes, he must solve the riddle that is the writer's signature so he knows [...]

    • I used an online gematria calculator and found that my 605 Jewish result is the same as such as Napoleon Bonaparte (my English 540 is the same as such as God is Real)! The palaces of memory example encourages me to examine architecture and other works of art for embedded messages!I was totally unaware of the Cathar texts and rituals so it was certainly eye opening to learn of the author's detecting and deciphering that Leonardo Da Vinci seemingly coded a reference to their consolamentum spiritua [...]

    • Some interesting speculation about the symbolism in Da Vinci's Last Supper and Virgin of the Rocks, but a rather limp and lifeless novel overall. It was definitely a better read than Dan Brown, but that wouldn't be hard, but a long way from Eco's Name of the Rose. As the author freely admits, there is not any evidence that Da Vinci was a Cathar, yet he makes a strained effort to depict him as a member of the forbidden sect. This might have worked in the hands of a skillful narrator, but I'm afra [...]

    • So bad. Only wasted 2 hours of my life on it because a friend insisted I had to read it and is waiting with bated breath to see what I think. Help me Jesus!

    • "kereeeennwalopun gue masih tetep bingung, pada akhirnya si pengarang ini mau menyampaikan apa tentang Leonardo da Vinci?" (Farah - Pendapat pribadi)Oke, gue katakan dengan jujur bahwa gue belom pernah baca bukunya Dan Brown. Baik itu yang the Davinci Code, ataupun Angel and Demon. Tapi gue udah nonton film Angel and Demon. Dan menurut gue, filmnya menarik. Tapi gue tetap masih belum memutuskan mau baca bukunya apa engga. Sama seperti Eragon, yang gue udah tonton filmnya, tapi belom baca bukunya [...]

    • I love good history. One of the things we must all appreciate about historical discourse is that any given subject is slanted by the biases and predjudices of the writer or the observer. Historical writings are therefore full of contradictions, disagreements, interpretaions and misinterpretaions, exagerations ad infinitum. One subject in our very rich historical past that is wide open to such mystery is the event of the creation of the "Last Supper" on the walls of the Systine chapel by Leonardo [...]

    • After just having read Doblin's Berlin Alexanderplatz, I needed something to cleanse my palate. That said, neither is this book as bad as its detractor's make it out to be nor as brilliant as its fans extol.A bit convoluted, with a nod toward Eco's Name of the Rose, with secrets within secrets, Sierra uses the format of fiction to promote an interesting notion, that da Vinci was a covert Cathar, a member of the heretical group supposedly exterminated by the Church two hundred years earlier, but [...]

    • The Secret Supper, was by all means an enjoyable novel. If you like historical fiction, some mystery, some murder and a little bit of spice, it has all the ingredients for a fun, beachy, relaxing page turner. If your tastes run to the more intellectual, descriptive and stickler for accuracy my suggestion is to look elsewhere, perhaps the wonderfully written "Historian." At any rate, this novel centers on Papal Inquisitor, Agostino Leyre and his experience in 1492 Milan and is told in a flashback [...]

    • Having received several messages from an anonymous writer expressing concerns about the possible heretical messages contained in the painting of The Last Supper, a papal investigator is sent to try to determine whether Da Vince is a Cathar and whether some aspects of the painting are expressing this faith.Mixing in real historical figures with some fictional ones to help solve the clues made this an interesting and, often, educational read. There is also a coded message to solve and several murd [...]

    • Where do I start? DaVinci seems like a pretty smart guy with all his "secrets" hidden in his art. VERY clever! I like the history and info about DaVinci BUT this book put me to sleep every time I started reading. I almost gave up MANY times but plugged along - it was a gift from my kids so I felt obligated. Just when you think you might understand what is going on, it gets MORE confusing. So many characters and you don't get to really "know" them. Too confusing and boring for me. Like a bad Life [...]

    • Another, but very interesting story about the 'Last Supper'. The story that gives us the hidden meaning of this most famous frescoes in the world.

    • Short review: This is a rip-off of The Da Vinci Code or at the very least the victim of poor timing (published less than a year after Da Vinci.)Longish review: As a novel this follows the more traditional story arc, in severe contrast to the cliffhangers every 3 pages in the Da Vinci code, and in that respect this book was much more enjoyable. Where The Da Vinci Code shines is that it's full to the brim of art history and geography which ties in beautifully with the overall conspiracy. The Secre [...]

    • This is the complete review as it appears at my blog dedicated to reading, writing (no 'rithmatic!), movies, & TV. Blog reviews often contain links which are not reproduced here, nor will updates or modifications to the blog review be replicated here. Graphic and children's novels reviewed on the blog will generally have some images from the book's interior, which are not reproduced here.Note that I don't really do stars. To me a novel is either worth reading or it isn't. I can't rate a nove [...]

    • It was an interesting read with a mix of historical characters and fictional characters. The characters were not well developed, and it was confusing to follow which character was doing what, when and why. I still don't understand why one character was killed in the novel and probably if I read it again would still not understand why. It was an interesting read with some factual information, but for the most part was just a light level read. If you are familiar with the workings and history of t [...]
